Week 3
This week we are off to explore nature on a camping adventure with Henry and Mudge!  Cynthia Rylant is the author of the "Henry and Mudge" series, in which a little boy and his gigantic dog, Mudge, have adventures and learn about the world together.  After reading "Henry and Mudge: The First Book" as a class, students will be delving into  "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night," which tells the story of Henry's family's first camping trip!  Henry and Mudge help pitch the tent, go on a hike, roast marshmallows, and gaze at the stars at night.  They might even see some wildlife along the way!  What do you predict they might discover on as they explore nature on a camping trip?  Chat with your student about this great book, and look for many other "Henry and Mudge" books at your school or public library!

Ask your student to share some of our Amazing Words from this week: galaxy, tranquil, wildlife, identify, underneath, detective, fascinating, and slimy. See if you can identify any of them in this week's song below (it's Mrs. Gavalis' favorite song of the year!).  It is sung to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne."
